The Makita LCT200W 18-Volt Compact Drill/Impact Driver Combo includes the Makita LXFD01CW Compact Drill Driver and the Makita BTD142HW Impact Driver in one very cost-effective package – both tools for about $20 more than the cost of one. Both tools use Makita’s 4-pole maximum torque motor which gives approx 20% more power than a 2-pole motor.

This combo kit also uses Makita’s compact lithium-ion series of batteries which are rated 1.5 amp hours and are much smaller and lighter than the bigger 3.0 amp hour LXT range. They also have the advantage that they can be recharged in only 15 minutes and with 2 batteries you’re never going to have any down time. Changing the batteries a little more frequently is a small price to pay for the lighter weight which you feel the benefit of all day long.

Both tools are compact and lightweight for use in small spaces, have built-in LEDs to illuminate your work, and have an  ergonomic design that makes them well balanced and comfortable to use.

What to Look for When Buying a Cordless Drill and Impact Driver
There are a number of things to look for when buying a cordless drill. The most important are the number of volts (=power), the battery, the weight of the drill and the speed.

How Many Volts?
One of the most important components of a cordless drill is the number of volts. The greater the volts the faster the motor spins and therefore the more powerful the drill. It does have a downside however in that generally the more volts you have the heavier the battery and therefore the heavier the drill will be. So you need to keep this in mind when choosing a drill. Think about whether you will be using it for long periods. If so, you don’t want anything too heavy – you will really be feeling it by the end of the day.

These Makita tools provide an excellent balance between power and weight. With 18-volts they provide maximum power but are really lightweight at only 3.5 pounds for the drill driver and 2.8 pounds for the impact driver. They’re also fairly compact, particularly the impact driver.

Lithium-Ion Batteries for Long-Lasting, Quick-Charging Performance
The Makita LCT200W Cordless Drill/Impact Driver Combo utilizes state-of-art lithium-ion battery technology to provide maximum battery life and quick charging – the recharge time of these battery packs is only 15 minutes. Lithium-ion batteries are also 40% lighter than comparable 12-volt batteries, helping to keep the weight down.

NOTE: The batteries supplied with this combo are the Makita’s compact lithium-ion batteries which are rated at 1.5 amp hours – these are not Makita’s LXT series batteries which are 3.0 amp hours. The compact batteries obviously do not last as long as the LXT series, but they are much, much lighter – which is one of the reasons you buy compact tools in the first place. They also recharge in only 15 minutes which is quicker than the bigger versions.

You can purchase the LXT 3.0 amp hour batteries separately and use them with these tools if you really want to.

Makita LCT200W 18-volt cordless drillMakita LXFD01CW Compact Drill Driver: Dual Speed Range for Versatility and Control
If you’ve ever tried to drive a screw at high speed you’ll know that the screw can jump out of the slot which is not only annoying, but it can be dangerous. The beauty of these Makita cordless tools is that they offers the convenience of a dual speed range – high speed of 1-1,500RPM and low speed of 0-400 RPM – plus an adjustable clutch so you can match the best speed to the job, giving you the option of adjusting the speed of the drill and slow it down resulting in more control.

Makita BTD142HW Impact Driver: 1,280 inch/pounds of torque
The Makita BTD142HW Impact Driver has a single speed range of 0-2,300rpm, and provides 3,200 impacts per minute with 1,280 in./lbs of torque. Unlike cordless drill/drivers, impact drivers are specifically designed to do one job: drive screws. As a result the Makita BTD142HW Impact Driver has only a single speed range, which is much slower than the Drill/Driver, and doesn’t have – or need – a slip clutch. The combination of bit rotation and concussive blows provides improved screw-driving power, but requires less muscle from the user. Impact drivers are also much less likely to strip screw heads and, being so short, this compact Makita driver is designed to fit into small spaces where traditional impact drivers don’t – as a result, you get straight penetration and avoid damaging bits from angled driving attempts.
